The Declared Word of God
by Rod Christensen.

It is the Spirit who gives life, the flesh profits nothing. The words (rhema) that I speak to you are Spirit, and they are life. John 6:63.

Living Water

Most Christians would agree that the bible is nothing less than the inspired and revealed word of God. I am sure you have experienced times when reading your bibles, it was like the words jumped out at you and spoke to your heart in a very deep manner. These are the times when the Holy Spirit broods over the written word so that we are able to see things from God's perspective. As a result you may have received insight on how to overcome seemingly insurmountable difficulties, or wisdom to know which direction you should take when the path ahead seemed obscure. At times like this we begin to understand what Jesus meant when He said, 'Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word (rhema) that proceeds from the mouth of God'. Matthew 4:4. The Greek word, for word, used in this passage is rhema and means, 'that which is expressed in a personal message'. Whereby, the other Greek word, for word, is logos and refers to a 'general expression of thought'1.

Our bibles are the logos of God. But under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit the words become rhema. Rhema to us can be considerd the very essence of heaven - life. Jesus stated that the words that He spoke contained life within them. The creation itself finds its origin in the spoken, or declared word of God. God said, 'Let there be light', and what was not, came into existence through the power of His declared word.

Creative Process

God is the Creator. When there is no form or substance the Lord speaks, and what was not, comes into the natural. This is one of the reasons why the bible cautions us about what we say. Our words also contain power within them - they can bless or curse.

Let's have a look at an amazing example of how God uses anointed words to create something from nothing. This is what I like to call the creative factor of God.

Then the angel said to her, 'Do no be afraid, Mary, for you have found favour with God. And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a son, and shall call His name Jesus'.

And the angel answered and said to her, 'The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore, also, that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God'. Luke 1:30-31, 35.

This is the power of the declared word of God. It finds it's origin in the heart of God and at the right time it is released prophetically containing within it the inherent power to bring forth what He said, often bringing forth major changes. In this instance we need to learn the wisdom of Mary. She also had her part to play in the process.

Then Mary said, 'Behold the maidservant of the Lord! Let it be to me according to your word (rhema). Luke 1:38.

What would have happened if Mary had of said, 'Is this really from God or from the devil? Or, I am not really sure about all this prophetic stuff. I don't think it is theologically correct. Doubting the declared or personalized word of God for our lives will continue to abort God's purposes for our lives, which has a flow on affect to the rest of body, because in Christ we are one body. Understand me, I am not saying that we should accept everything that comes to us as being the word of God for us. God wants us to mature in discernment knowing what is true and what is false. Learn to lean on the Holy Spirit. He is our Helper and will show us what is rhema and what is not. Jesus taught that one of the major ways the devil robs and steals from us is by stealing the very word of God from our hearts, via doubt. He did this with Jesus, so be assured it is one of the very effective tactics he will use against our lives.

When they hear, Satan comes immediately and takes away the word that was sown in their hearts. Mark 4:15 b.

The Kingdom of God

The spoken or decreed word is one of the major ways that God by the Holy Spirit accesses our lives to bring change to our circumstances. At times, have you felt like your life is void, lacking direction, or even purpose? Well get ready because the Lord is about to speak into your heart, and when He does, expect the Holy Spirit to brood over those words and bring order where previously there has only been chaos. Our job is to position ourselves, and we do this by developing a believing heart, receiving and holding onto His words. Mark 11:22-23.

Have you ever desired to understand the ways of God? I certainly do. In the bible we can see not only His acts but also His ways. An aspect of God that I find fascinating is His creativity. We can see this attribute daily, and His creation contains so much diversity. He loves to bring this creative aspect of His nature into our impossible circumstances. I know there are many of you right now facing insurmountable difficulties but I say to you prophetically for 2006 you are going to see the creative nature of God demonstrated within your circumstances - only believe and when you do, suddenly, 'all things will become possible'.

He knows exactly where you are and what you are going through and He has a creative solution for you. That solution will be delivered to you the same way it was delivered to Mary - the declared, personalized word from the heart of God.

One personalised word from the Lord is going to activate His creative factor in your circumstances. When He speaks to you the waters of adversity will begin to part, the walls of bondage will come down and your enemies will be scattered. Do worry how this will happen because the word of the Lord declared prophetically contains the DNA necessary to completely overhaul and bring change to the most robust opposition.

God's spoken word will seed your heart with a new future that is in accordance to His will and purposes. Like Mary, that prophetic word spoken to you, will come in seed form. Within that seed is the ability to bring forth exactly what God has declared for your life. But like Mary you will have to receive the word, cultivate the soil of your heart, and wait patiently for the outworking of what God has promised. Remember God is an agriculturist. There will be a time and a season, and then suddenly what has been spoken will come forth.
